Ridgway examines the sculpture of "perhaps the most difficult century within the Hellenistic period." Beginning with a discussion of the difficulties involved in the analysis of Hellenistic sculpture and acknowledging the debates in the field, she states her own conviction that "much thought about ancient sculpture ought to be reconsidered or changed....
