It may be further observed, that does not signify number, as Montanus renders it, in the Hebrew, though it does in the Chaldee. Theodoret says, that by " tabernacle" should be understood, the protection of God, Ts Oea cncron» Jerome has, SÇuia veniám ad umbraculum tacebo usque ad domum Dei. So he understood PSALM XLIV. Ver. 12. Thou sellest thy people for nought, and dost not encrease thy wealth by their price. The original of the latter part is îòl.OÎTTn02 which Montanus renders, et non multiplicajli in preciis eorum; and Pagninus has it, in divitiis eorum: But TnD means literally nei" ther price, nor riches, but " exchange," as the Septuagint have it, Kaì àx iv a-AÏfloç Iv rois aMoíyfAxa-iv àvrZv; or as the Complutensian, and Theodoret have it, îpuv. Et non fuit multitudo in commutationibus nojlris. Vulg. This word is mostly rendered so by the Septuagint, as in Deut. xxiii. 18. oc.Wa.ypx xu»òç, I KingS, xxi. 2. xXXaypx «firtAwKç. Job, xxviii. 15. àvráxXxyfAx. In other places they use A Jewish commentator ex plains the word in this passage by fìVn aliquid mutatum, from í1?!! mutavit. So the Hebrew might be, Et non multiplicâjli in commutationibus eorum; " by the exchange of them." Perhaps exchange is a better word than price, where nothing is paid.
