"Athena's Owls" was written for my daughter, Athena, to impart lessons that I learned from traveling the world, gathering culturally diverse stories & perspectives. (My own father was a US diplomat, and I’ve visited 72 countries… so far.) This is an adventure about a group of owls who love each other and form a non-traditional family, because there are a lot more alternative families these days. And I’ve created this initial version as a coloring book, so that families, of all types, can have an activity to enjoy together. The Greek Gods & Goddesses are featured throughout the story, though the series isn't limited to Ancient Greek myths. The Owls, the stars of the book, meet characters from a variety of cultural, religious, and philosophical backgrounds — learning about the world and life along the way. My desire is that these stories will instill Growth Mindsets, Critical Thinking, and Empathy in kids of all ages. Many know the story of Athena… Goddess of Wisdom, Protector of Athens, Daughter of Zeus. Athena, who saved Hercules… And Perseus… and Odysseus… and Jason. Athena, who gifted the Olive Tree to humanity, And created Weaving… …and Spiders. But few know the story of the Owls who raised her, And the wisdom they gave her, And she gave them.
