Excerpt from Stammbaum und Ausbreitung der Germanen Dem Ganzen liegt die Anschauung zu Grunde, dass wir an der Ueberlieferung nur dann zu zweifeln berechtigt sind, wenn zwingende Gegengründe vorliegen. Solche Gründe gibt es aber nicht, weder sprachliche, noch archäologische und am allerwenigsten naturwissenschaftliche. Meine Auffassung hat schon oft lebhaften Widerspruch und heftige Angriffe erfahren; meiner wiederholten Aufforderung aber, mit den Gründen nicht hinter dem Berge zu halten, konnte noch nie entsprochen werden.
