They have not, however, been slavishly followed in the present work. Their form has very frequently been altered, and their substance has on numerous occasions been material ly enlarged. Sometimes, again, Ni ppardey's conclu sions have not been admitted, but others have been adopted in their place, which appear more consistent with sound interpretation.
