This book is a study of ten ancient civilizations, the deities they worshiped, and how those deities affected their lives. We will focus on the pantheon of gods for each of the cultures and the dynamic of the interaction of the gods and the humans who revered them. We will examine the pantheon and the religious stories it produced for the generations who were members of these long past cultures. While most of these cultures were polytheistic, there were, of course the dominant god or gods that ruled over each pantheon and were most adored by the people of the civilization. We will especially focus on the human characteristics of the deities who oversaw the ancient societies. They were the most likely to find conflict, and most fun to research, write, and read about. We will also, in the end, reflect back on our religion and the manner in which we worship. What is comparable in the way we look to the supernatural and what is similar about what we expect from our God? All great civilizations have a lifespan. There has never been a culture that has defeated time. It is only a matter of how long we will endure. So, what will become of our God when our civilization ends, as we know from history, it must. Will our deities become mere legend…just another religious myth? Enjoy the book!
