This book documents the proceedings of a workshop held in Lima, Peru, in 1986, focusing on regional cooperation for development and the peaceful resolution of disputes in Latin America. Organized by the International Peace Academy in collaboration with Peruvian institutions, it explores the interconnections among development, democracy, peace, and security. The workshop involved discussions on economic instability, democratic evolution, arms reductions, and regional economic integration as mechanisms to mitigate tensions and foster sustainable peace. Although a consensus on recommendations was challenging due to diverse viewpoints, the workshop emphasized the importance of economic growth, equitable resource distribution, and functional regional linkages.
