In offering the superb collection of Coins of Ancient Greece and Rome, enumerated in the following pages, the cataloguer does so With some degree of hesitation, because the number of collectors of this class of coins here is supposedly limited, and the interest not generally in keeping With the importance of this branch of Numismatics And yet, -the encouraging words received by him from several quarters, since the work was undertaken, create the impression that interest in Ancient Coins is rather dormant than wanting, simply because Oppor tunities to purchase genuine or superior specimens at un reserved public sales are of such rare occurrence: The opportunity is now at hand and the support of col lectors in general respectfully solicited.
