Between 1824-26, 'the worst managed war in British military history', which cost the British taxpayer fifteen million pounds, was conducted by General Campbell against the Burmese under their commander Maha Bandula. Based on contemporary sources, the account charts the lives of Bandula, who rose from peasant status to become commander-in-chief of the King of Burma's armies, and Campbell who pursued his military career in Ceylon, India and Spain.
