While serving as an apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ, President Marion G. Romney was called by President Harold B. Lee to serve as Second Counselor in the First Presidency, later to serve as First Counselor. As a member of the First Presidency, President Romney continued to give oversight to Church Welfare Services. One time when he taught welfare precepts from the welfare handbook he was asked how he knew the handbook so well? To which he replied, with a smile that he wrote the handbook. President Marion G. Romney is a man for all seasons, an apostle and witness that Jesus is the Christ, the Holy Messiah who soon will come to reign for a thousand year millennium as King of kings and Lord of lords.
