Human Rights in Germany and the United Kingdom is a major research project which provides a comprehensive comparison of the human rights regimes found in Germany, the UK, and on the European level. Breaking new ground in the comparative analysis of theses legal systems, the work will cover not only the main substantive rights found in the German Basic Law of 1949, the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms of 1950, and the UK Human Rights Act of 1998, but also address, inter alia, judicial approaches to human rights analysis, access to courts and the effect of court procedures on human rights protection, the influence of administrative law, legislation, and other non-constitutional legal tools in the protection of the individual, and the federal dimension of human rights protection. Special emphasis is put on the status of human rights under (formal) states of emergency and in times of societal crisis, e.g., the tensions created by the current global struggle against terrorism
