
Presents findings and recommendations from a review conducted to determine the extent of severance costs resulting from the termination of employment of senior executives within British Columbia ministries and Crown corporations. The review also sought to determine whether the provincial government provided direction to ensure that severance guidelines are in place, reasonable, and consistent; monitored compliance; and informed the Legislative Assembly about severance costs for senior managers. The review covered all severance payments issued to senior executives from January 1, 1990 to November 30, 1995. Excessive settlements are identified and discussed, and recommendations are made regarding such matters as employment contracts, double-dipping, and accountability reporting.
