Patrick "Patty" Walsh joined FDNY on December 10, 1901, rose through the ranks, and became Fire Chief and Commissioner on May 10, 1941. He retired on January 1, 1946. The last 6 years of his career were spent working directly under the rambunctious mayor Fiorello LaGuardia. This book, written by Patty Walsh's grand-daughter, is more than just a history of early FDNY.
