This study investigated advanced processes for disinfection by-product (DBP) precursor removal, to achieve compliance with the Stage 1 and Stage 2 Disinfectant/Disinfection By-Products (D/DBP) Rules, while maintaining free chlorine as the residual disinfectant in the distribution system. Processes evaluated in this study were The MIEX? process*, Fixed-bed ion-exchange (IX), Granular activated carbon (GAC), and Preliminary, bench-scale testing of a novel process combining ceramic membranes with in-line MIEX? resin addition.
