The Theaetetus of Plato (429-347 B.C.) is one of the greatest works on epistemology (the philosophy of knowledge) ever written. In this dialogue, Socrates, Theodorus, and Theaetetus consider the very nature of knowledge. They formulate three different theories, none of which proves satisfactory. Although no essential definition of knowledge is ever discovered, the dialogue remains one of Plato's most enlightening.
