ABOUT THIS VOLUME. This volume contains papers arising from the meeting on Dynamical systems and Bifurcation Theory, held at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in August 1985. It presents original contributions in several very active areas of research in the field of dynamical systems, with special emphasis on questions concerning structural stability of vector fields and bifurcation theory (including Hopf bifurcation, the transition from periodic to strange attractors and homoclinic tangencies). Results for polynomial foliations and complex vector fields and foliations are also reported, in addition to dynamical aspects of lines of curvature and geodesic flows.
