History is irrecoverable from a sea of sources, and therefore tends to fiction, on which students capitalise to produce their own inimitable versions. In similar comic vein to 1066 and all That, Sam Merry shares his thirty years teaching, based on students' silly accounts of Modern History themes: "During pre-History, there were very few complete people, anyway - only skulls, bones and teeth scattered over the face of the earth, called hominids, thyroids and jawbones. During this time there were many prehistoric monsters, such as sibre-toothed taigers and mammals with huge tusks, wearing woolly jumpers. There were no dinosaurs because they had died out long ago from the big bang, or too much sex."
