On 8th May 1903, having spent his last few days with a cannibal Shaman called Tioka in a bamboo hut on the tiny volcanic island of Hiva Oa in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, French post-Impressionist painter Paul Gauguin died. Or did he? On 3rd January 2008 Tony Stowers, a British actor/writer living in France and very much alive, travelled to Pont-Aven, France. Somewhere along the way, a restless painter's ghost found temporary sanctuary in the imagination of an obscure, contemporary writer. This is their story.
