Author Description

The idea for this book came out of a successful Facebook group called 'Auld Linwood Town and Surrounds' set up by the author of this book, Dougie Ross. As the group grew rapidly due to its popularity, and the information posted became varied and interesting, he saw the opportunity to write the 'book of Linwood'.Other books previously written about Linwood' although very good, were basic in their content and description, and concentrated of the inclusion of photographs. Here was the opportunity to write the full story of Linwood, covering most aspects of the lives and historical events of Linwoodonians since the creation of the village, right up until today.The author has endeavoured to be as factual as possible and to provide clear references to support what is being said. It includes first-hand accounts of peoples' experiences of Linwood long ago, it is partly anecdotal, and also gives the author's own experiences of growing up in Linwood from the 1960's to the 1980's, as well as valuable input from the members of the 'Auld Linwood Town and Surrounds' Facebook group, as collectively, they are the ones who made the town what it is over most of the past century.It is the author's hope that this book will inform the people of Linwood and Renfrewshire, old and young, about its unique history, but also that it be kept as a reference book for people to go-to when they want to know something about Linwood's rich past.
