In this book, the process of evolution is viewed using a different perspective. Rather than natural selection, it is proposed that the world is in equilibrium – though the equilibrium level changes, and the evolution of various species takes place through this equilibrium. There are many questions in the process of evolution of species which cannot be answered by Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection, like: with so much variation in traits or diversity within every species, if evolution took place by natural selection i.e. every generation resulted in favorable trait or variation being selected, we would see evolution take place at a very rapid rate and not a small change to occur in thousands or even hundreds of thousands of years, as we see it. However, when there is a change in equilibrium state, like when an organism moves or is moved from its original environment to a new environment, we do see a rapid rate of evolution and rapid changes in the organism. if by natural selection, the best are selected and propagate, then why is there diversity among individuals of a species, i.e. why not only the best within the species are selected to survive. In fact we will not find any two individuals of a species identical. if big changes in organisms, like new features, are achieved by very slow and gradual accumulation, how does an individual in a species with a minute change stand out from others in the species and go towards increasing the new change, if the change itself is very minute and will contribute very little towards its survival. there has been evidence that some of the species of fish have been living for millions of years. Why have they not evolved into better and superior creatures? Are they the perfect creatures? with a new and useful feature, the selection of an individual from a group, would be more justified if all the individuals of the group were identical i.e. there is no diversity in the group. But there is diversity in al
