Dr. A. Josef Smith is a lifelong and twelfth generation resident of the Hudson Valley who since an early age became interested in nature and history, in especially the field of how ancient cultures used plants and fungi in their livelihoods. He began lecturing and writing on the subject over 25 years ago and continues today. He holds a post-doctorate in botany and mycology in addition to a Ph.D. in archaeology, a Th.D. in theology, D. Hum in political science, M.S. in environmental science, M.A. in history, B.S. in earth and life sciences, and B.A. in integrated social sciences. He is an inductee of Who's Who in Science and Technology, and a member and office holder in numerous organizations. He has hundreds of articles in many subjects to his credit not to mention several equally eclectic books in print. His favorite pass times are hiking, camping, skiing, target shooting, horseback riding, writing, public speaking to name but a few.
