Murdering Hope is a murder mystery, a detective story and a psychological tale of suspense. "As Christiaan opened the door wide, Goldstein reached for his shoulder, attempting to try and calm him. The most bizarre thing happened next. For a second Christiaan stood in the entrance. Then it seemed as if he flung himself backward on Goldstein. Goldstein tried to support him with one hand while trying to close the door with his other hand. Then something strange happened to Goldstein's leg. It collapsed under him, and together with Christiaan's momentum and weight it meant that both fell backward. As the two men were falling, Goldstein cried "Get down! There is a sniper outsi..!" but his cry was cut abruptly when his head banged hard against the floor. A second later the door, keeping the momentum from Goldstein's push, closed with another bang. I fell to the floor and crawled towards them. Christiaan's eyes were wide open, staring at the ceiling. At the center of his forehead, a few centimeters above his eyes, there was a tiny red mark. Without fully thinking, I touched his neck, seeking for a pulse. He felt warm, but there was no pulse. Then it hit me. Christiaan was shot."
