Author Description

California historian, Gil Richards, has been sketching the old sites of the Gold Country for over 30 years. Being a native of Nevada City, fourth generation from that historic town, Richards knows the area well. The schools, miner's cabins, churches, saloons, mines and homes of the masses that arrived and grew in the 1850's are recorded here. Many of the drawings within this book are of sites that no longer exist. With each sketch is a caption which gives some interesting detail about the area or site shown. This book is a rare find for Gold Country student and visitor alike.
