
What does an eighty-seven year-old see when he or she looks ahead? It is, of course, their future they envision. I believe they ought to be ready to have a say and play their part in how that future unfolds. Late-lifers know, based on their own experience, that October and beyond is a new, very different time of life. They have climbed the hill. Now the question becomes……should they coast to the finish line, or keep pedaling It is a natural late-life response….dwelling on what we can no longer do…..even as we overlook the one thing we can do better than anyone else…..creating the gift that only we can give. We ought not live there. But an occasional visit to the past we have filed away in our late-life memory file is not an unhealthy thing. Those recollections, and lessons they reflect, can be a blessing.
