Physical Chemistry of Material Properties Volume 2 is a set of physical property studies suitable at the level of undergraduate chemistry courses, a range of engineering courses and material science courses as well as at higher educational levels. These studies often require computational power and analysis documentation beyond the scratch pad, calculator, or spreadsheet. PTC Mathcad Prime is chosen as the analysis vehicle because it provides an easy-to-use computer interface, user tutorials, and a powerful array of computational tools. This volume consists of three sections titled Electrode Processes, Chemical Reaction Rates, Basic Quantum Mechanics. The Chemical Reaction Rates section contains the Basic Reaction Kinetics study which also appears in Volume 1 of this series. Each study can be viewed as a standalone project or “microproject”. Each is based on empirical knowledge and theories designed to summarize and understand origins of these facts. Empirical knowledge is either taken, or simulated, from that found in the science literature. These microprojects provide ancillary studies appropriate for advanced course work at the undergraduate level and for graduate-level review studies. The volume is for those who wish to develop ever more efficient, and readily available, computational methodology. Microprojects encourage both review of fundamental concepts and extension of scientific knowledge. Each microproject begins with a topical review or a review of specific research available in the science literature. References are provided along with appropriate data sets of reduced size so as to avoid overly exhaustive data entry. The project introduction is followed by a multipart question set designed to encourage substantial data analysis and property insight. Questions are in turn followed by Mathcad worksheets of a sample data analysis, which illustrate examples of logic and numerical techniques. Worksheet math is largely understood by any version of the PTC Math
