Struggling with life in college, Rebecca thinks a week of yoga and self-discovery could be just what she needs - but her skeptical friend Esme is quick to notice that everyone at this isolated retreat seems awfully eager for them to give up their names, phones¿and credit card numbers. As the newcomers learn the sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking stories of how each of Maya's eccentric followers came to be there, they start asking questions- but Mother Maya does not take kindly to questions. Can Esme and Rebecca uncover the truth before it's too late? A flexible ensemble creates thrilling theatrical imagery with group movement in this suspenseful satire of self-help scams, intertwined with a heartfelt coming-of-age story. Retreat was developed through the Stage Partners One-Act Play Commission program with EdTA, and workshopped with a cast of Thespians from across the country at International Thespian Festival 2025, culminating in a premiere staged reading.
