Author Description

First, I want to tell you where I got the name from for this family history book. Dad built a restaurant and gas station on our Homestead property he called Moodna Manor. The Homestead was located on a major thoroughfare between the city of Newburgh and the town of Cornwall named US Route 9W. He realized it was a prime location for a fuel and rest stop, so he built, what was called, back then, a Roadside Stand. The roadside stand was a restaurant and gas station that he named Moodna Manor. For eleven years, my mother worked long hours cooking in the restaurant kitchen, working at the service counter, and gassing up cars (back then called “pumping gas”). She did have a couple of employees to help her. So, using the name Moodna Manor gives admiration to all her long hours of hard work. Dad had a plumbing business at the time and never did spend much time working at the roadside stand, if at all.
