On January 6, 1930 Lillian Simmer departed from New York on the S.S. Resolute steamship of the Hamburg American Line for an Around the World Cruise dubbed "The Voyage of Your Dreams". Lillian joined the cruise as a 44 year old single woman traveling alone. She quickly made friends with many of her cruise companions on the ship, and on sightseeing excursions at the many ports of call. The cruise route carried them across the Atlantic and through the Mediterranean Sea. At the Suez Canal the passengers took a shore excursion through the Holy Land and Egypt. From there the ship rounded India, sailed through Southeast Asia, and up the coast to China, Korea, and Japan before heading back to the United States with stops in Hawaii and the California coast. The final portion of the trip continued down the western coast of Mexico and Central America, through the Panama Canal, stopping in Cuba before returning to New York on May 27, 1930. This is the diary she kept during that cruise.
