
The Complete Poetry Collection of Tang Dynasty with a total of nine hundred volumes was compiled by ten members of the Imperial Academy including Peng Dingqiu and Yang Zongne who had retired to Yang Zhou. They were all selected by Cao Yin who was the director of the Jiang Ning weaving Bureau and serving the emperor Kang Xi. This book involves more than 48,900 poems in the Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties and more than 2,200 poets. Consequently, it is by far a collection with the maximum poems and the greatest impact and also a valuable reference for studies on history, culture and literature of the Tang Dynasty. However, there are also some problems such as wrong collection, omissions, repeat occurrence of the writer and their works, improper arrangement, literal errors and so on in this voluminous book. To satisfy the need of the reader to read and research, it is necessary to do some revision and addition and reprint the Complete Poetry Collection of Tang Dynasty compiled by a writer in Qing Dynasty. This enlarged and reprinted revision of the Complete Poetry Collection of Tang Dynasty is based on the original version of the Zhonghua Book Company. In addition, horizontal version in simplified Chinese and modern punctuation are acquired with the vertical version in traditional Chinese and old punctuation discontinued. Furthermore, some typographical errors are corrected and the Supplement of Complete Poetry Collection of Tang Dynasty revised and added by Chen Shangjun is also included in (Supplement of Complete Poetry Collection of Tang Dynasty was published in 1992 by Zhonghua Book Company). In this case, more than 4,600 poems and more than 800 poets are further included in this book. This enlarged horizontal version in simplified Chinese can be the largest collection of the poetry of Tang Dynasty so far.
