In the early 1950's, a married couple sit down to breakfast on a sunny morning in Council Bluffs, Iowa. As a barrage of crows swoop down from the clouds to destroy their cornfield and greedy bankers from downtown wait hungrily to foreclose, Hickory Adler and his timid wife, Maureen, wonder what they can do to change their luck.
