Book II begins with tensions running high for our favorite heights who are struggling to hold onto what they have unwittingly found together, and still working on accepting the possibility of a shared future. That's pretty hard at the moment though, since Ethan's gone. Out there somewhere fighting the good fight, for those who can't yet fight for themselves. Of course that's not something that Simone would argue with, even if she could. So she does the only thing left and buries herself in her work as she anxiously prepares to complete one of the biggest jobs of her life! It's bittersweet though, with her daughter also busy at camp full time, she's predominately consumed by worries of how she will stay busy once it's done! As usual, the answer will surprise her.One job ends and another thankfully begins. Her patience run short, but her coping skills grudgingly improve as life goes on around her. Simone even meets a few more Kent's while spending extra time on the farm and that helps. She finds solace in feeling like part of his family, as she attempts to recreate her own. Meanwhile she still has to find a way to explain the possibility of Liliana's own heightening to Ben before it's too late and it's fully upon them. She also needs to somehow stay on good terms with him afterwards. That promised to be a lot trickier...From the soaring pines along the Merrimack River, to the regal properties from eras past hidden high on wooded hills, Simone explores her new hometown and learns even more about the people and places that make it so unique and so very special. Along the way she also learns more than she ever expected to about herself. Like what she really wants out of life. That has her wondering, do we all really have the right to be our true self, and still be happy?
