This is a work of fiction designed to be used as a teaching tool. Eleventh Hour is an introduction to the healthcare industry, designed for those who either have limited background in healthcare, or have technical training in areas of accounting, business, medicine, or nursing, but limited knowledge of how the system works in its entirety. Topics include the history of the American healthcare delivery system, the theory behind managed care and its impact on cost and quality, a brief introduction to healthcare economics, healthcare ethics and legal issues, the role of the professional, hospital organizational structure, and the impact of power, politics, and money on the healthcare industry.
