This is the first work by William Martz. It is based on the personal experiences of Dr. William himself, a palliative care physician who works in an inpatient hospital setting, and has consulted on a large number of patients infected with Covid-19. Although the characters are fictional, they represent actual patient experiences, as well as that of their families and loved ones. The purpose of this writing was to help those outside of the healthcare field to understand some of the challenges and struggles faced by patients and the families who were affected by this unique disease. Additionally, this work attempts to pay respect and give honor to the healthcare workers who have and continue to care for coronavirus patients, despite potentially putting themselves and their family members in harm's way. In my 30 plus year medical career, I have never encountered a disease process that could almost completely redefine the way that we deliver medical care in a hospital setting. I dare say that inpatient medicine will never be approached in the same manner after the events that have occurred in 2020 related to the coronavirus pandemic.
