This book was written by and for women to provide women travelers with accounts of what women might expect to find while traveling in some 80 countries. It focuses on women traveling alone or without men and independently (not on a packaged tour). Entries are arranged by continent and begin with basic information about the country. The introduction is followed by one or more personal accounts explaining how women were treated, what to see, how to dress, what problems women had. Some entries contain at least two accounts, so are able to give a more balanced picture. Concluding each entry are travel notes that include information on language, transportation/travel, accommodations, special problems (e.g., monsoons, altitude, violence), guidebooks, bibliography, and lists of contact groups, including women's groups, crises centers, women's centers, and bookstores.
