A community determines what is significant in its past, how it is significant, and often develops treatments for bringing its history into the future. One of the goals of the Lower Delaware Wild & Scenic River Management Plan is to "encourage communities and historical organizations to survey and, where appropriate, to establish local historic districts and to nominate historic structures, landscape or districts for inclusion on the state and national registers of historic places." Phillipsburg and the surrounding communities have untapped potential relating to the interpretation of our cultural resources. The town does not have walking tours or self-guided tour maps like some. An inventory of sites in an old Delaware River town is therefore perhaps a first step in helping people experience, value and respect this section of the countr's rich historic and architectural heritage.
