Examples of good practice are noted regarding: the patient advice and liaison service which is an innovative joint venture with North Hampshire Primary Care Trust; and the Wessex clinical governance network which aims to share good practice in local emergency care. Areas of concern relate to: the security arrangements in the children's inpatient area; the fact that both posts for infection nurses are vacant and there is a need to improve infection control awareness; and the lack of a dedicated lead role in the human resources directorate.
