With her sisters, Josie Louise and Jezebel, Savannah Blue goes out one last time before bed--and disappears. Where could she have gone? Savannah Blue tells us she got hurt and takes us on the journey to getting better. We learn along with her that love is the best medicine on the road to getting well. Some children find it difficult to express their feelings when they don't feel well. Illness often involves trepidation, from visiting the strange environments of doctor's offices and hospitals, to receiving icky medicine and painful shots. By having Savannah Blue ask Calla Ruth questions the book becomes a dialogue in which children respond to their parent or caregiver when both may feel vulnerable or hesitant to express what they are really going through. It creates a safe environment and may also facilitate discussion about the illness or injury of a beloved pet, friend, or relative. Sudie Rakusin donated over 1200 copies to area children's hospitals in North Carolina.
