Why “Our People” Need Home Ownership For far too long we have intentionally been denied the opportunities of Home Ownership because of one thing nobody in this world had a choice to choose prior to coming on planet Earth, Skin Color! Because of skin color specific systems have been created & set in place to stop us from having access to the same opportunities everyone else had. Because of this, several years of generational trauma have been created & implanted in us that many of us are not even aware exist within us. Then to make matters worse, it is delivered and presented to us as if “we are at fault” for our circumstances and we are in these circumstances because we are not “doing for self and pulling ourselves up by our own boot strap.” The intention behind this book is so that African American people in this country can understand that home ownership is so much bigger than being able to say “I am a homeowner.” I want us to witness the short term and long term opportunities available for our families by having a big focus on home ownership. Homeownership is the reason why many other races & cultures in the country start their financial independence journey and eventually pass down those resources & information to the next generation in their family tree. We have to start looking at being a homeowner as a necessity and not something we just “WANT” to do. As a member of the Chicago National Association of Realtors, I always see that many of our people are only 3-6 months away of focused discipline to being approved for a home loan, but our mentality is the reason why we lose that focus and do not have the drive to accomplish the goal. Part of it is our mentality, but most of that mentality was created within us through generational trauma from 400+ years of enslavement and 100+ years of Civil Rights Oppresion.
