Author Description

A boy describes his days with his mother, who has a visual impairment, and how she knows the world around her. His mother has a special ability to know what is going on by developing an acute sense of hearing, smell and touch. She is also a great cook who depends a lot on her sense of taste to create awesome dishes. He begins with the way his mother receives him as he arrives from school and how together they prepare the dinner table and sit together with his father to talk about their day. He also describes the roles each one takes in managing the household and supporting his mother. He emphasized her broad scope of knowledge that she has gained by listening and learning. His mother also reads braille and thus she has the advantage of reading books to the narrator before he sleeps while the light in the room is off.
