The woman's painted-on eyebrows drew together. "Excuse me?" she hissed. "We're leaving. It was great meeting you," I said. I turned on my heel and left, guiding Elizabeth so she didn't do anything stupid like apologize. When we got out of the club, she turned towards me, her expression wavering between awed and horrified. "What possessed you to do that?" she asked, not loudly, but definitely audible. "They were treating you badly. I don't like it when people are assholes to my friends," I said, shoving my hands into my pockets. She stared at me for a second, and I thought that she might have a meltdown. Then she did something that I didn't expect. She laughed. She laughed and laughed, doubling over as she laughed, which gave me a shameful and excellent view of the white lacy bra she was wearing underneath the dress. She steadied herself on my arm as she slowly stopped laughing. "I don't think I've ever had a friend that is quite so strange as you," she said. I smiled. "I'll take that as a compliment," I said. She threw her arms around my waist and squeezed me quickly. "Let's go. I owe you a drink," she said. I nodded, and we walked away. I couldn't stop thinking about the feeling of her b
