After this he resided for several years in London with his elder brother, during which time he assiduously devoted himself to the acquisition of knowledge, aiming, as in Leipsic, at everything within his reach. He mixed much in the best society of England, to which the character of his father provided him a ready access, and formed friend ships and acquaintances with the distinguished literary and scientific men of his day, which were, many of them, continued during his life.
