Harriette Browning Fishburne is a retired pediatrician who has loved photography throughout her career. It wasn't until she retired that she was able to expand her knowledge of photography and travel with her husband, Cary, of fifty-five years. Their last trip was in the summer of 2018 when they traveled to Kodiak, Alaska. Harriette settled her husband into a comfy cottage on the Kodiak Harbour with a pile of books and then hopped on a floater plane with a small group of photographers. They flew off to the Katmai National Park and Preserve for five days where they lived on a small boat in Hallo Bay, making day trips to shore. Katmai is a protected refuge where hunting is not allowed and, therefore, the wildlife feels no fear from humans. If one respects the boundaries of these majestic animals, then one will be able to savour the enjoyment of an intimate encounter with them in their natural habitat. Harriette had the good fortune of getting to know a family of bears over the five day period, at a safe distance of at least 100 yards. She took quite a few photos over the period and it wasn't until CoVid hit that she had the time to review them."With the challenges of self isolation that we have all had to endure over these past months, it has become increasingly apparent how precious family is. I, personally, miss the company of my three sons, daughters-in-law, five grandchildren, and five fur grandbabies. My husband and I long for the day when we can all get together again. While reviewing these photos, I was able to appreciate the unadulterated love that this mama sow had for her two coys (cubs of the year). She and her cubs obviously relaxed and shared with us their gentleness, silliness, and affection for one another. I hope that you will enjoy them as much as I have." This book is dedicated to Martha, Charlotte, Matthew, Michael, and Lewis with love.
