"In the 1920's, John W. Spencer was Supervisor of the Bighorn National Forest in Northern Wyoming where his principal activity was managing livestock grazing. He also found time however to take a trip along Solitude Trail and photographed the scenes in this book. Shown in juxtaposition to the historic images are modern photographs taken by Dave Stoetzel, who had to search out many locations after nearly a century.
