Seeking a tranquil place to indulge his twin passions of painting and gardening, Claude Monet moved to Giverny in 1883 and began transforming its grounds into a painter s paradise. The project occupied the rest of his life and resulted in some of his most famous paintings. After Monet s death, the gardens were neglected until the 1980s, when an effort aided by photographer and horticultural designer Elizabeth Murray restored their former grandeur. Murray returns to the gardens regularly to photograph their ever-changing beauty.
