In 1994 Local Government in Victoria experienced a period of significant change. Council amalgamations directed by the Kennett Government saw the former City of Dandenong and the City of Springvale - as well as small areas of the City of Berwick and the City of Cranbourne - come together to form one municipality. City of Opportunity - The Making of the City of Greater Dandenong has been produced to reflect on 25 years of achievement, as these communities came together to create an active, vibrant and muliticulutural municipaliity, one that recognises its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, and its significant place as a happy home for migrants from more than 160 different nationalities. City of Opportunity reflects on the development of the city over this time, and acknowledges some of the people who have made the City of Greater Dandenong so vibrant and diverse.
