Since the days of Hawaii's Territorial Government, the Hilo Yacht Club has been an integral part of the community and history of Hawai‘i Island. And the club's membership has reflected the changes that have swept through the islands: Hawaii's transition to statehood, suffrage for women, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and world wars. To enrich the community’s understanding of the various areas in which the club has settled, the Malys have created an account of the pre-history and geography of the Hilo area, and have included some never-before translated documents concerning the transition from traditional land-rights to modern land ownership.
