This book is a guide to a better understanding of the Old Testament. The author shows how a knowledge of the historical background and structure of the various books helps to make clear their message to the reader. After discussing the character of the Old Testament and its general contributions to contemporary concerns, the author relates how and why the individual books came to be written and collected. He has provided suggestions for additional reading and discussion questions for each chapter.
