This study was developed to encourage nomination of historic park landscapes of national & state parks to the National Register of Historic Places. The study is written from the perspective of landscape architecture. Contents: stewardship for a national park service; origins of a design ethic for natural parks; a policy & process for design, 1916 to 1927; the work of the western field office, 1927 to 1932; a process of park planning; a decade of expansion, 1933 to 1942; a new deal for state parks, 1933 to 1942.
