This book will attempt to outline the predominant view on actual or personal sin held by the Holiness Movement and its predecessors in Methodism, beginning with John Wesley Hence this book is a historical survey of the relevant people and statements in this tradition. This is not a Biblical or logical, or even historical argument for a particular understanding of sin as correct, but rather an attempt at clarifying what the historical view was within the Holiness tradition. This book will examine three specific aspects of actual sin. Is sin avoidable? Is sin compatible in the Christian life? What is the nature of sin? This study will attempt to allow the theologians to speak for themselves. As such, there will be extensive quotations of the primary sources. In conclusion, my intent is to provide[PK1] a basic understanding of sin as generally understood by the Holiness tradition and represent it in a concise doctrinal statement.
