The first step to overcoming anything, you must first acknowledge there is a problem. Depression is a topic that isn't discussed as often as it should be because many may feel it is a sign of weakness. In today's society, strength is praised and the thought of someone going through anything is often laughed at and ridiculed which causes people to isolate themselves and not discuss it outwardly. Specifically in church, if someone is showing signs of depression and isolation, the first thing they are told is to, "leave it at the altar" or "depression isn't of God, so you must not be praying enough." This book discusses why this approach is not OK for one's mental health. Depression cannot solely be prayed away. You must work daily to improve your mental health. But first, you have to admit to yourself and out loud, "I am depressed and I need help." This book has two parts. The book begins with a mental health pledge and is followed with stories of characters loosely based off of the author's own life that has gone through depression and what they did to overcome it. The second part of this book is a series of activities located within a journal that you will complete. Although healing could oftentimes be hard and raw, the author believes healing should also be fun. Congratulations on your journey of overcoming depression. We hope you enjoy your book!
